Gospel Conversations
The heart of The Words Project is to use creative means to develop great conversations that lead to credible relationships. Sometimes though, the Holy Spirit lays a path in those conversations for the gospel to be shared and prompts us to step out in faith. Here are some conversation templates to give you an idea of how to bridge your conversations to the spiritual realm and ultimately share the message of Jesus.
Example #1 – Topic Card: Zombies
Host: “Zombies. That’s interesting. Why did you choose it?”
Player: “Well, I saw it and I’m pretty into movies about zombies and paranormal stuff.”
Host: (Laughs) “Yeah, paranormal stuff is cool, but I usually can’t get through most horror films. If there was a zombie apocalypse or something like that, I don’t think I’d last very long.
Player: “I’d definitely be one of the first people to get out of there!”
Host: “Speaking about zombies, did you know that many religions and spiritual practices speak a lot about the undead?
Player: “I don’t think I knew that, but it makes sense. I feel like death is something no one can escape. Every group of people has to face it and no one truly knows all the answers.”
Host: “Yeah, all people do have to deal with death, and it seems almost impossible to know the answers. Did you know Jesus had many encounters with dead people?
Player: “Really, I heard he just said a ton of wise stuff and supposedly did miracles.”
Host: “Well, He did both of those things you mentioned, but He also encountered dead people quite a few times. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, who created the universe, and conquered death dying for the sins of all people in the world. Because of those claims, Jesus had the power to bring people back from the dead and keep them from death eternally.
Example #2 – Topic Card: Aliens
Host: “Aliens, that’s a fun choice for a word. Why did you choose it?”
Player: “I’ve always been fascinated by the universe and science fiction, so when I saw this card I had to choose it.
Host: “Sweet! Yeah, I love science fiction too. Some of my favorite TV series and movies are sci-fi influenced. Do you think aliens or other life forms could exist someplace else in the universe?
Player: “Of course, there’s no reason to think otherwise. I know some people think the thought of aliens is crazy, but it’s totally possible.
Host: “Yeah, I think science has shown us that there is so much about the world we can’t fully understand. Since we believe there could be extraterrestrial life out there somewhere, do you think there’s a possibility of a higher power, or divine creator?
Player: “I actually haven’t ever thought about it that way, but now that you mention it I could see how there could be a higher power or more intelligent life form.”
Host: “Yeah, I totally agree. My belief in the possibility of aliens and unknown has also led me to embrace the possibility of demons, angels, and even God existing.
Player: “Really… how do you figure?”
Host: “I believe that God gave us knowledge of himself through Jesus Christ who came to our world from his own. He told us of the fallen nature of our world, showed us the fallen nature of our selfishness described as sin, and how he loved us and would die for us so we wouldn’t have to be separated from Him and how he designed His perfect world to be.
Example #3 – Topic Card: Truth
Host: “Nice choice, I like that card a lot. So unpack truth for me. Why did you choose it?”
Player: “I chose truth because it’s something that is so important to our lives. Social media and the internet lies to us about everything and you can’t even trust news sources anymore to actually tell the truth, all they care about is ratings.”
Host: “So I hear you saying you there isn’t truth represented in our social media and our news. How would you define truth?”
Player: “Truth is the reality of when something happens, whether that’s in a political agenda, entertainment, religion, science or whatever. Truth isn’t blinded or intolerant, it’s all encompassing. This is why our justice system is so messed up because it refuses to embrace the truth about things.”
Host: “I see you’re very passionate about truth being displayed in all situations, that’s awesome to hear. I completely agree that all media has a message to send us, whether that is the truth or not seems to be what is being debated.”
Player: “Yeah, I generally think it isn’t. The media doesn’t really want to give us truth, the just want ratings, so they give us half truths. And people don’t want to hear the truth; they just want to stay inside all to themselves. People are so selfish, and there’s really no way to fix a broken system.”
Host: “Do you think there could be or has ever been a leader who embodies the truth and could really bring truth to our world?”
Player: “I think people have tried, but they fail in the end. There are always other agendas that creep into their lives that override truth and justice.”
Host: “Sadly that scenario you described does happen quite a lot. I do believe one person in history did embody truth, justice, and love and never failed in standing for those things.”
Player: “Who?”
Host: “Jesus Christ. Jesus claimed to be the embodiment of truth. The Bible says he will bring justice to the world and set every wrong right.”
Player: “I don’t think so. I feel like all religions say the same thing; it’s just a way of believing that makes you feel better when bad things happen.”
Host: “Jesus is the only leader in any religion that you’ll ever study that left his position of divine authority to bring love, justice and truth to a fallen world of people that he loved. He did this by living a perfect life free from corruption and died on the cross for people’s selfishness everywhere so that they could experience God’s perfect love and peace.
